I have one more trip before I disappear off to Carmel in July for a glorious summer of music making. I will be making my debut as a conductor in Japan. In the past I had made many trips as an oboist, but have never been invited to conduct.
I am therefore thrilled to have been invited over by one of Japan’s most respected musicians, Masaaki Suzuki. He has a festival in Chofu and I will be sharing a program with him, conducting Mendelssohn Midsummer night’s dream overture and Beethoven’s fourth symphony. It will be a pleasure to be able to work in detail on period performance style with some of Japan’s finest musicians.
