PJG classic conducting shot

I am very excited to be much more involved in contemporary music these days, an area that has long excited me from my early days performing contemporary oboe repertoire and when I used to compose.

I will be conducting the Lithuanian State Orchestra in the Gaida Festival - the most prominent contemporary music festival in the Balkans - with a program of Magnus Lindburg Feria and his first violin concerto, the jazz trumpet concerto by Bernd Zimmermann and a new composition for orchestra, voice and electronics by the Lithuanian composer, Albertas Navickas. Challenging and exciting music.

Here is a Facebook clip of the increadible spanish trumpet player Manuel Blanco rehearsing the Zimmermann concerto with me:

I will then be off to Ankara in Turkey to perform two programs.

Firstly : Mozart Post Horn Serenade, Haydn cello concerto with Pablo Ferrandez and Dvorak fifth symphony.

Secondly :  Arvo Pärt In Memorium, Richard Strauss violin concerto with Elena Baeva and Brahms first symphony.

My Christmas offering this year is a re-invite to the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra after my successful Bach Matthew Passion, to do several performances of the Christas Oratorio.

Then I will be in Poland with the Warsaw Philharmonic to perform Mozart, CPE Bach and Beethoven’s second symphony.

I am happy to have been asked to return to the Israel Chamber orchestra and make another tour with them.  This time we will be performing a baroque and classical program with Corelli, Scarlatti, Pergolesi and Mozart, including the beautiful Pergolesi Stabat Mater and Scarlati Salve Regina.

There are clips of my conducting the orchestra in Finzi Dies Natalis and the Tippett- Corelli Fantasia on my Media page and also on YouTube:

Some interesting news is that I have just been alerted to the fact that Spotify has 23 of my albums available for download or for on line listening at present and that the track that has most downloads is : Sospiri, Op. 70, by Elgar - listened to nearly 3 million times!
